Matthew is a proud native born Tennessean and the third generation to live on his family’s farm. His roots trace back to his ancestor and the first governor of the state of Tennessee, John Sevier. While at the University of Tennessee College of Law, Matthew concentrated his studies on advocacy and dispute resolution. Prior to law school, he worked as an agent with Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee. Matthew understands the importance of communication, honesty, hard work, determination, and treating people the way you would want to be treated. He is honored to serve the legal needs of individuals and companies with interests in and throughout Tennessee.
Matthew is a member of the Order of Barristers, serves as a member of the Agricultural Foundation for Tennessee Tech University, is a former President of the Knoxville Chapter of the Federalist Society, is a member of the Knoxville Estate Planning Council, and is a member of the board of directors for Tennessee Parks & Greenways serving as East Tennessee Vice-President.
Born in Knoxville, Mr. Winston counsels clients ranging from small local businesses to large national companies in business sales and acquisitions. Mr. Winston also maintains a general practice in estate planning, debt collection, probate, corporate law, and criminal defense. Mr. Winston earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In law school, Mr. Winston was the Recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Advanced Legal Writing. He earned his Juris Doctorate, Cum Laude, from the University of South Carolina in 2014. Also in 2014, he was admitted to the Tennessee Bar. Mr. Winston is a member of the Knoxville Bar Association ("KBA"), the Federalist Society, and the Knox County Animal Cruelty Alliance Advisory Committee. He is a 2017 alumnus of Leadership Knoxville’s Introduction Knoxville. Mr. Winston serves on the Memorials & Resolutions Committee of the KBA. Mr. Winston enjoys spending time with his wife, Jessie, an art teacher at Knoxville West High School, and their two children, Jacob (b. April 2015) and Kate (b. April 2017).
